New Release:  Under the Covers from Steve Luciano Label: Self-Released Add Date: June 3, 2024 Website: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAwUyesVye9EYWYJMNDlj4w Straight-ahead jazz guitarist and bebop impresario Steve Luciano has a style of playing that allows his notes to move seamlessly, articulating each phrase with a pristine tone, resembling the evocative playing of George Benson and Charlie Christian.  Supporting Luciano on his release Under the Covers are: Mike Avila on percussion, Charlie Siva on bass, Walt Hubbard on drums, and Dan Jordan on tenor saxophone and flute. Album Review - Guitar & Me from Aleksi Glick

Image
Album:  Guitar & Me Artist:  Aleksi Glick Website:  https://www.aleksiglick.com/ Guitar and Me , the debut release from jazz guitarist Aleksi Glick features six original compositions written by him and seven covers.   Glick recorded  the solo arrangements for guitar while in isolation at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.  A mixture of hard bop, blues, improvised jazz, and adult contemporary, the arrangements roll along like a cool breeze ruminating across the aural senses.  His fretwork is nimble and graceful, stringing together a series of soothing and sizzling chord patterns reminiscent of the dexterity and expressive versing of Gene Bertoncini. Launching the recording with the hard bop grooves propelling "With Ease," Glick's deft performance radiates a modern jazz glint that modulates a bluesy whisper across the title track.  His graceful maneuvers induce a dreamy state that wraps the listener in emulsifying verses.  The misty ...

Album Review: Truth from The Seth Weaver Big Band

Image
Album:  Truth Artist:  The Seth Weaver Big Band Label:  Outside in Music Website:  www.sethweavermusic.com An award-winning trombonist, vocalist, composer, arranger, and educator, Seth Weaver leads a 17-piece swing orchestra on his debut release Truth from Outside in Music label.  Following in the footsteps of his predecessors, Weaver's band works as a unified team while demonstrating the dexterity and virtuosity of individual band members.  Weaver's band continuously produce congenial aesthetics for the listener. Starting off, the serpentine scrolls of Addison Frei's piano keys pave a poetic missive through "Here's That Rainy Day," fringed by the soft glittering doodles in the cavalcade of horns.  A natural blues crooner, Weaver's vocals add sentiment and dimension to Jimmy Van Heusen and Johnny Burke's melody.  The track is distinguishable, toggling between the elegant crests of Weaver's vocals and the soaring altitude of the horns. Weaver...
