Album Review: Σymposium For Peace from George Nazos

Image
Album:  Σymposium For Peace Artist:  George Nazos Website:  https://www.georgenazos.com An agreeable mixture of folkloric jazz, ambient acoustics, and improvised phrasing, Σymposium For Peace from guitarist, composer and bandleader George Nazos is an enterprising venture.  Accompanied by Harvie S on bass, Joe Abba on drums and guest vocalist Tamuz Nissim, Nazos flexes his instinct for theatrical flourishes, threading chords that sow together into searing stories. Nazos's strumming tenderly treads across "I See You" brandishing an ambient texture that's bolstered by the light strokes of Abba's drums and soft throbbing of Harvie S's bass.   Nazos changes course on "Santie" displaying a nimble flutter that wields a folkoric twinkle, which transitions into the gentle glittering effects strewn across "Lonely Moon."  His guitar strings weave searing messages as though groping in the darkness, grasping for something in the distance and wandering ...

Album:  Heat Songs Artist:  George Nazos Label:   Street of Stars Website:  www.georgenazos.com Born in Athens, Greece and working in New York City, guitarist-composer George (Giorgos) Nazos blends various styles of guitar from acoustic jazz and flamenco to collaborative freestyle and ambient.  Nazos moves through a gamut of expressions on his latest recording Heat Songs , weaving sublime sensations in the chord sequences integrated with improvised patterns.  His studies on the guitar demonstrate his imaginative leanings and melodic sensibilities.  Joined by Harvie S on bass, Tony Jefferson on drums, and vocalist Tamuz Nissim, the effort is a finely orchestrated collaboration. Nissim's soothing lullaby-lilt along "Bird on a Wire" is catacomb by Nazos' guitar trickles as his chords amble in a meditative fashion.   Plucking at notes in a freestyle manner across "Our Melody," Nazos creates a mosaic of sounds framed in Harvie S' throbbin...

Album:  Capturing Clouds Artist:  Tamuz Nissim Label:  Street of Stars Records Website:  www.tamuzmusic.com A prolific vocalist at scatting, singer-songwriter Tamuz Nissim knits, kneads, and entwines a significant performance on her latest release Capturing Clouds .   Her high flying vocals mould freestyle formations through the tracks, wielding a saber-swift slashing that makes brisk incisions along the melodies progressions.  Her vocals rivet and ripple with an agility that is uninhibited, showing a spirit that is unchained.  These traits are best heard in "What A Pair" and "On the Sunny Side of the Street." Displaying a graceful vocal stride flickering gingerly along the title track, Nissim expresses an inner serenity that seeps into the listener's soul.  Moving along, the bopping beats lining "Like Someone in Love" put a sunny lift in her vocal swagger, which slows to a gentle trundle along "Saturday Sun" as Nissim's vocals brighte...
