The Tierney Sutton Band has
embarked on an ambitious project, putting together a collection of 19 theme
songs from iconic movies that span the first century of American
film-making. The 19 tracks are divided
into five acts, coming together to form the compilation ScreenPlay,
which will be released worldwide in its entirety in June 2019.
Act 1 of ScreenPlay
is “The Bergman Suite,” featuring five songs written by the collaborative team of Alan and Marilyn Bergman. The duos contributions to the history of movie-making
as film lyricists have influenced many songwriters after them, shaping the
history of soundtracks and theme song writing.
The Bergman's mysticism and magic stems from their ability to channel
the human emotions displayed in the movies into song lyrics. The Tierney Sutton Band's mysticism and magic
stems from their ability to channel human emotions into the lyrics of the
songs.
Bandleader and vocalist
Tierney Sutton leads the way through the five theme songs chosen for Act
I. With a gentle voicing reflective of
Diana Ross' clarion tone, Sutton's narration exudes an airy quality along
"It Might Be You," elevating the listener to an empyreal plane. The smooth gossamer in her nuanced vocals
spins warm sheaths that saunter across the melody with fluid reflexes. The graceful poise of her delivery through
"The Windmills of Your Mind" illustrates an intrinsic understanding
of human frailty. Her talent for
finessing her vocals to move with a casual flare is highly laudable as she
effortlessly touches the listener's soul with her pleasing altitude and vocal
arcs.
Just as the Bergmans weave
unforgettable images through their lyrics, Sutton too spins durable expressions
using her vocals. The recording is
artistically engaging and sonically gratifying.
