Album: Higienópolis

A montage of sound waves that bend, swerve, arch, genuflect, gleam, and blaze, to name a few of the characteristics created by Canadian based jazz trio Local Talent, led by pianist/keyboardist James Hill. The trio's music demonstrates their versatility as cutting edge musicians as they experiment with the possibilities of their instruments. Supported by bassist Rich Brown and drummer Ian Wright, the trio test the velosity of their playing and come up with arrangements that are sonically incandescent like entering mind-blowing galaxies for the ears. Their debut release Higienópolis from Project Whatever Records is a journey through their stirring experiments made together.
The title track opens the disc to boiling surges that froth and rumble in a freestyle fashion. The rattle of Hill's keys are partnered with thundering drumbeats and pulsing bass pulls, which abruptly stop when the track ends. "Intro To" changes the course of the disc, moving into chamber music style keys that arch and bow in a sophisticated manner that continues through the melancholic putters of the instruments searing through "The Silent Cry."
"Tundra" returns to an experimental phrasing, wrapped in percolating keys and dangling chime-like effects that change to a swath of scuttling patterns along "Skeletons." The quick speed of the changing movements demonstrates the trio's nimbleness and ability to respond suddenly to fluctuations. The haunting sensations resonating from the keys along "Blue Rainbow" are dark and sonically alluring, creating a shadowy voice in the background of the track.
Perhaps the best description for Local Talent's music is that it is like entering a mind-blowing galaxy of sound waves. The musicians patterns change rapidly and randomly while keeping together. Sci-fi sounding while adhering to freestyle jazz principles, Local Talent takes modern jazz and fusion to another level of experimentation.
Musicians:
James Hill - piano and keyboards
Rich Brown - electric bass
Ian Wright - drums
