3D Jazz Trio's original creations and reimagined arrangements are filled with nimble improvisations in union with finely groomed motifs.  The trio of pianist Jackie Warren, acoustic bassist Amy Shook and drummer Sherrie Maricle are a ball of kinetic energy that radiate merriment and an indefatigable zest for life.  Their latest recording 9 to 5 takes its title from Dolly Parton's popular hit song, and contains a collection of original creations by the trio alongside reimagined arrangements.

The trio tweak Parton's hit tune, applying a funky sprint in the rhythmic pattern, as the pumping action of Maricle's drum beats and Shook's bass lines are dotted by Warren's sprinkling keys playing the main motifs and branching out into sizzling improvisations.  The trio interweave the idioms of swing, bebop, straight-ahead jazz, blues, and funk, and add Latin flavors like samba, salsa, tango, conga, and mambo into the mix.

The trio's reworking of Gil Fuller and Chano Pozo's tune "Tin Tin Deo" starts off with a tango-like tempo then amps up the pace to a spicy mambo shimmy with pulsating keys as the bass and drums bolster the festive atmosphere with crackling tremors.  The Latin dance theme continues with Miguel Matamoros' number "Lágrimas Negras," moving from a sultry samba to a sassy salsa.  The playful twists in the keys and the frolicking beats of the drums and bass breed an infectious merriment.  "Theme for B.T.," composed by Warren and dedicated to her precious kitty cat, B.T. (Brown Tabby), is clad in bubbly undulations garbed in Latin-flavored raptures and elegant flourishes.

Another dedication on the recording is to Warren's father, Hal R. Warren, in the trio's rendition of Leonard Bernstein's blissful sonorous "Some Other Time."  The pensive ambience created by the tender strokes of Warren's keys is augmented by the brushed drum beats and gentle swell of the bass pulls.  Underpinning the serene contemplation is a sense of celebration and joy.

The tapping pulse of Maricle's drums and Shook's bass suspend Warren's keys prancing through the main motifs and soaring into agile and capricious improvisations, producing an uplifting mood along Joe Raposo's fan favorite "Sing," arranged by Maricle.  Another fan favorite is Harry Warren's "I Only Have Eyes for You," arranged by Shook.  The trio hone a nocturnal ambience as the sprightly keys are silhouette by a bopping bass line and crisp cymbal splashes.  The trio moves at a frolicking pace that projects the image they are smiling as they play.

The trio's reinterpretation of Isham Jones' "There Is No Greater Love" props the melody in a jaunty rhythm, as the bouncy pulse of Maricle's drums transition into lofty plumes of energy buoyed by the surging improvisations of Warren's keys and Shook's bass.  The melodic progressions are kept vibrant as Warren's keys swivel and twirl, and Shook's bass flares and quivers, and Maricle's drums throb and simmer.

3D Jazz Trio's enthusiasm to play is palpable, giving the listener the impression that the trio is smiling as they play. They radiate merriment and an indefatigable zest for life that is infectious.  From American jazz to Latin dance, 3D Jazz Trio perform with heart and soul, inspiring audiences to enjoy their music as much as they do.
