Jonivan Jones's offering Two Piece is a rootsy Ozark mountain blues cook-out, roasted in Americana anecdotes and barbed in country folk nostalgia.  The singer-songwriter-guitarist is joined by upright bass player Mike West, whose whistling strokes shroud the tracks in a willowy, outdoorsy ambience.  Mastered by James Plotkin of Plotkinworks, Jones pours his heart and soul into his creation, giving the songs an authenticity reminiscent of the pastoral folkscapes of Woody Guthrie and the musky, rustic palette of John Prine.  Jones's songwriting straddles the line of traditional folk and experimental blues, dipping into the psychedelic zone of prismatic colors resonating in his guitar reverberations dancing across "Drifter's Suit."  The raspy texture of Jones's vocals are kilted in fluffs of a haunting harmonica, permeating a soothing vesper quality.

The slow tempo of "Lost Ships" is wrapped in country soul boughs and Americana grit, turning to a smokey blues rocking along "Runaway Main."  Jones often recreates the tottering motion of riding a horse like the craggy swells of "Cutting Hay" and the glistening embers of "Watering Hole."  The rippling beats of "Wildest One" change gears to a toe-tapping tempo ruching "Moira's Heart," both primped in stream of conscience style verses.  The lulling swells of "Wide Place in the Road" pervade a bohemian vibe liken to the woodland atmospherics depicted in a Jack Kerouac novel.  The locomotive-like rumbling of "Lucky Strikes" is furrowed in jangly guitar strums and rootsy folk trimmings.

"Forever Frontier" stirs an Americana anthem feel with its slow curvy riffs, glittery guitar reverbs and a Gaelic-like twinkle.  A great-grandchild to Guthrie's 1944 perennial mistle "This Land Is Your Land," Jones's mural shows a modern perspective on rustic allure.  Arkansas born and bred, Jonivan Jones's collection is a remembrance of the music steep in the hills of America's heartland. The songs are a letter to the audience to rejoice in its beauty and appreciate its grit, its mysticism, and its magnetism.
