Composer-keyboardist Peter Calandra presents his latest release Night Mist, comprised of eleven original arrangements that project stimulating sensations relatable to the works of composer James Horner with a cinematic fascination emblematic of the scores by composer Bill Conti.  Some compositions like "Winter Song" and "Whispers of the Dawn" showcase Calandra playing solo piano, speaking to the listener on an intimate level.  Other tracks have an atmospheric texture with lofty string arrangements that flex a charismatic fluidity like "Peaceful Valley" and "Mohawk Morning."  The ambient soundscapes have a glistening quality that are uplifting, enchanting the listener as the melodic intervals meld into each other, pervading an amorous shimmer. Calandra's synth effects have a thrilling magnetism that galvanizes the listener to the music.  His playing through "Autumn Nights" displays a sensitivity that projects a heartwarming sentimentalism, traveling into the tender warmth of "Starlit Night," emoting a romantic glow.  From new age to neo classical, and from symphonic pop to orchestral jazz, Calandra is a versatile pianist and composer whose explorations and experimentation are pleasing to the aural senses.
