The youthfulness in Interplay Jazz Orchestra's performance penetrates the listener from the get-go.  The orchestra's present lineup sees their sophomore offering Bite Your Tongue out of the gate in 2026.  An assortment of covers and originals, the compositions are abound with bopping harmonies, swinging horns, jangly keys, and romping beats.  Layers of trombones, saxophones, and trumpets produce a party atmosphere that keeps the music bustling through numbers like "The Congregation," penned by Johnny Griffin and "Go Figure," written by the band's baritone saxophonist Chris Scarnato.  The bluesy cool jazz glaze of "My Foolish Heart," composed by Victor Young, is a wondrous serenade sprinkled in sparkling horns, coasting into the sweet soundscape of "It's Been A Long Long Time," which kicks into a swinging romp midway, alight with twirling toots and finger-snapping, percussive beats.  The band's cover of Cole Porter's "Night and Day" is steepled in Chris Donohue's swiveling alto saxophone, bathed in a flotilla of flashing horns, and closes the recording with the smooth bluesy curls of "Blues for Adrian," a slow strutting piece by one of the band's trombone players Joey Devassy.  The orchestra layers the instruments into multi-faceted compositions that balance traditional big band jazz and modern swing with aplomb and ease.
